    Tricks and Tips

    Hi All,
Figured I'd start a thread for Tricks and Tips here, where people can suggest things they're doing with the FGU that others might not think to do.

For instance - let's say you have a player character who has five different contacts. Go into each NPC who is a contact for the NPC, and add the following new skill to their panel:

_Availability for <fill in name of NPC here>

Then fill in either of 6, 9, 12, or 15 in the skill value.

Any time you need to roll to see if a specific NPC is available for a game session, just roll on that skill for each of the NPCs who might ever be called upon during a session.

You mean, "Go into each NPC who is a contact for the PC...", not NPC, correct?

Let's say you have an NPC named Alice Grover, clerk working for the Department of Motor Vehicles for the State of Southern California. She's rated as skill 12, semi-reliable, and available on a 9 or less. As GM, you created an NPC named Alice Grover, and you gave her one skill "computer operations: DMV database". You would give her a second skill listed as _availability for Alice Grover. In the skill section, you'd list a 9.

At the start of the session, you could as GM, pre-roll against all of the player character's Contacts, or you can simply hold off until he attempts to reach Alice via phone asking her to run a plate. Rolling against the _Availability for Alice Grover, the result is an 8, so she answers her phone.

Last game session where I had to determine if a woman contact for a player was available, he called her, and she answered the phone. Before the player could get a word in edgewise, she blasted him for not keeping the date for dinner last month, and that she is NOT happy. THEN I rolled to see if she was available, which she was, and role played her saying "you stiffed me, you want help, then you take me on a date that is going to cost you at least two Benjamins." The player was eventually able to mollify her sufficiently with a new promise to take her out to dinner at an expensive dining place, and she in turn told him "I can't get the floor plans you want by tomorrow, but I can at least give you all we have in our computer system on violations, easements, inspection issues, citations etc." He was happy to get that on short notice (he needed the information in less than 24 hours).

So, you place the data in the NPC character sheet area itself, not on his sheet. I suppose you can drag and drop a link to the NPC in the Player character sheet area for Notes, and make it easy to grab the NPC quickly.

Oops, I meant to say drag and drop the NPC icon onto the Player Character sheet - my bad.

Edit: I've since tried to drag and drop the NPC onto the player character's notes area of their character sheet. FGU does not allow for one to do that. Would have been nice if it worked!

I'm going to add a Screen shot of an example. Hope this helps.

PS sorry about the picture size. I hadn't realized just how large it was.
