IMO, don't worry about it. If the thought experiment the OP proposes becomes a thing, there are solutions to it and they will be detailed by the community.
I'm a fan of backups, and though this isn't the most elegant solution, it'd probably work, to a point. The encryption remains a problem, and if push comes to shove, we don't have much recourse. There's no analog to "I bought the physical book already; I can keep playing it". I have always appreciated having officially licensed modules from SmiteWorks, but the looming revocation threat has always been part of the deal.

I generally didn't worry about it, as you recommended, until Leon started to look at Hasbro. Hasbro's market cap is "only" $7b

We are working to make more and more modules no longer be read-only. If you open and mark any data element as changed, then a local copy will be kept and this will always supersede the "official" version even if the official version is updated. You could alternately update it to whatever you wanted it to say. These local updates can even be copied from campaign to campaign by copying over the XML file for the module from your moduledb folder under the campaign where you made the edit. In order to update your version to the official copy, you would have to "revert" the changes for that data element or revert the entire module. This is something that the end-user has to do and is not something ever sent down from SmiteWorks.

Hypothetically speaking, if some person were to buy a company, the value of the soon to be purchased company is often determined based on past sales. If you buy all the things now, it will cost the person more to buy the company. Just saying.

lol I snorted. You almost got me, but .... I do have some wish-listed modules on sale right now, so thanks for the response, Doug. You're a good man.

Might as well just say Elon it’s not that cryptic and at this point the world knows him. This ultimately falls under the wisdom bin of “try not to stress over things you have no control over”.

Which some ultra rich guy buying the owner of a product I enjoy most certainly isn’t anything i can control.

Not saying I’d enjoy it or be happy just why stress?

If someone were to roll back all the garbage woke rewrites that have swamped this hobby over the last decade there would conversely be plenty of very happy people.
Everyone should play the game they want - but changing things like removing race and evil monsters is changing existing things that are not broken.
Write new games if that is what you are after - there are no shortage of games catering to a very wide variety of preferences.

Interesting -- does it set the read-only bit on the files you choose?

I'm doing my due diligence to help preserve access to the content I've licensed; if he makes the choice to buy it, that'll be a bit trickier than it is today, so I may as well plan ahead.

Mods - one of you is deleting posts that you don't like, but don't break the rules and you wonder why so many people harbor animosity for you.
    lol/no
