Create a table that will deal damage.
I would like to create a table for 5E that will have different effects that will deal damage. for example a roll of 1 would do Thunderwave damage, a role of 2 would do Call Lightning damage. Is this even possible?

I don't think that is possible with a table. However what you could do is create a NPC with X number of attacks similar to a beholder where Attack 1 is Thunderwave, 2 is Lightning, etc.

I think Griogres way is probably the easiest way to achieve. Still roll on the table but use the NPC to apply the damage.

The easiest way I can think of to do this is to create a Damage NPC and give it all the damage abilities you're looking to add to your table. Number the damage abilities for identification later, then build a table to roll 1-X, according to your list on the NPC. Then, before you start whatever scenario is leading to this damage, add the NPC to the combat tracker. When your conditions are met, roll on your table, target the recipient(s), and roll the damage from the associated ability.
I was late to the party, apparently, but I'm leaving it in. :P

I agree with this fully. This is the way. However the combat tracker is not necessary as long as you pin the NPC to a story page and or a short cut when you need it, it's convenient. I do the same for traps and such, much simpler than dozens of new NPCs for every variation.
