New Dungeon Master's Guide Magic Items - No Images / UnID descriptions?
I just got the new DMG to look through it and set up some parcels of magic items for my players and I found this really weird - One of my favorite things to do is having a reveal of what the item is with a description of the object and having an image associated, which the old DMG was set up perfectly to do with the Unidentified descriptions and the pictures associated, which the new book seems really inconsistent on- some items have pictures and a very brief Non-ID note compared to the old version, some don't have any pictures, or any descriptions at all, and some have one but not the other.
It's honestly pretty disappointing especially since the vast majority of them could have easily just been copied over from the original printings.Last edited by galaxybomb; Yesterday at 23:05.

Nope, the original images could not be copied over from the original DMG to the new DMG. They are different products.
These are conversion, not re-imaginings. If WotC doesn't put something in the printed version, then FG doesn't get to add to the FG version. There was one occasion where FG was allowed to put in colored versions of maps that were not included in the printed version (it only had monochrome). But that was a one off and hasn't been repeated.

Not every item has an image associated with it either in the old DMG or in the new. I haven't done a side by side comparison but I think there are more images in the new than there were in the old one, Certainly pretty much every weapon has an image which I don't think was the case previously.
(Just in case you are not aware the images are no longer linked in the description as with the old DMG; they are in a separate tab called pictures which you can find on the right hand side of the item. You can share the image using the share button at the top right).
As regards the non-id descriptions; the reason that the old DMG had these was because at the time the identified/not identified toggle was introduced (about 8 years or more ago) the default behaviour was that the items were unidentified. So I created an unidentified name and description (none of which was in the actual books - I made it all up) for each item so that these fields wouldn't be blank. This was all done after the DMG had been out for a wee while. However subsequently and at the request of the community the default behaviour was changed to default to identified. Since then magic items have not been given a non id name or description; this being left to the DM if they wanted to add such themselves.
I'll take a look at adding in non-id names and descriptions.Last edited by Zacchaeus; Today at 10:28.
If there is something that you would like to see in Fantasy Grounds that isn't currently part of the software or if there is something you think would improve a ruleset then add your idea here https://www.fantasygrounds.com/featu...rerequests.php
