Problems Sharing Images - Some Players see them, yet some do not
Team,
I reached out to several folks on the discord and followed the troubleshooting steps there. They said that if I still had issues to export the logs and post them here.
BL - I am running FGU and only loading PHB, DMG, MM, yet when I go to share a map or image with the players 2/4 can't see the image and 2/4 can see the image. It doesn't matter if the file is a .png or .jpg, big file size or small file size (although very occasionally a very tiny image will sneak through - but that is almost always when I recreate a brand new campaign then it stops after an image or two).
What in the world is going on? I have Verizon FIOS and a hard connection to the modem from the computer, so my network speed should be fine. I had the players check firewalls. As I understand it FGU is on the cloud and so I don't need to tinker with Port Forwarding.
Help!!
The players that CAN'T see the images are tsunamikazi and kunrinkaxsai.
I grabbed the logs and posted them below.
Thoughts?

What does "can't see the image" actually look like?
One of the common things is when a GM shares an image with Lightning enabled, and the PC for the character does not have any light source or darkvision etc. Then the window will open for them, but it will appear black. Because they have no light source to see anything. It could also be that with Lighting or LOS enable the player doesn't own a token that is on the map/image.
A screen shot of the DM image control panel open and a screen shot of what a player sees would help us resolve this.

It would be helpful to see one of the logs from one of the users having issues. They might have data blockage due to firewall, anti-virus, flood controls, etc. Sometimes when users install an app like FG, the pop up window to allow incoming app requests through the firewall is missed or accidently dismissed upon install.
If they are experiencing performance issues or errors, they may be external (e.g., firewall settings, ISP limitations, or network congestion). Your logs do not show any connectivity problems or disconnections from the Fantasy Grounds server itself.

And finally, if you happen to share numerous, or large or giant images/maps (over 4K) with your connected players, sometimes those can be problematic too and not display properly due to memory limits, etc. The blockage sounds like flood control or some sort of network data shaping or control to limit bandwidth usage.Last edited by Laerun; November 11th, 2024 at 02:45.
