D20 modern?

Hi everyone! I was wondering if the d20 modern ruleset works with the 3.5 ruleset or if it's separate? Could i use extensions or modules with it?

It comes with the d20 Modern SRD material; and has similar features to the 3.5E/Pathfinder ruleset.
