Keeping Conan 2d20 Alive and the state of FGU module

    Greetings everyone,

We want to keep sword&sorcery Conan 2d20 alive! So we created a server on Discord in order to run games, one shots - campaign etc.

Ofc you can join us if you want - and play using FGU which i recently bought.

I am sceptical though of the Conan 2d20 module since i read some bad reviews. So i want to ask whats the state of the module now? Is it worth it?

Do you have a sever link? Super Teddy did some work improving the ruleset so it is better than the original dev left it

I use it for solo play, and it seems to do everything I need it to do. I've heard it doesn't have half the automation that, say, 5E has, but what ruleset does? No character builder either. There are some clunky elements, like rolling NPC actions off that red jewel thingee in the bottom left corner instead of straight off the character sheet, but you get used to it. Sad thing is because the original creators didn't show the ruleset a lot of love, none of the sourcebooks got translated into modules. You can input that data (if you have the time), but a major missed opportunity.

I ran a 30+ session campaign using it and we had a great time. It's definitely usable as the main framework for playing. The PC sheet is pretty good and allows the players to track, and use, their main skills and abilities. The main things I missed was a reliable way of using minions - that functionality started to be implemented in the combat tracker but was never completed, you can still do it manually and it works OK, but I still would have liked a more polished way of handling minions.

My biggest problem was the lack of converted modules. I had all of the books from the Kickstarter, but I found that preparing for a game I spent most of my time entering NPC/creature statistics. I could, and should, have created my own library of NPCs, and a master NPC record with all of the standard NPC special abilities to allow me to drag/drop to new creatures - there's no automation there, but it's handy for quickly referencing exactly what the special abilities do.

My issues were all pretty minor things and probably stemming from being used to a lot more automation in rulesets like Pathfinder 2.

Of course, the "is it worth it" discussion is pretty much moot if you don't already own the Conan 2d20 ruleset, as it's no longer available for purchase since Modiphius didn't continue the license.

Great answer thanks! Yeah I have all the books in pdf and I'm searching for a way to run some one shots. Still searching though but it's sad that the module in fgu is not supported 😞
