How to Import VTT Maps into Fantasy Grounds?

    Hi everyone,

I've searched the forum extensively but couldn't find a clear answer on how to import VTT maps (such as those from Tom Cartos) into Fantasy Grounds.

I already own several of his paid content packs, which come with all the setup for doors, windows, and other interactive elements. I would really prefer not to have to redo everything manually in FG.

Does anyone know a way to properly import these files while keeping all the pre-configured elements intact?

Thanks in advance for any help!

It will depend on the format. You can import .jpg, png, webp, and .uvtt formats into FG using the import button on the assets panel. The data for line of sight will need to be in an xml file correctly formatted for FGVTT. Some packages such as dungeon alchemist allow exporting maps along with that file. So it will depend on whether the images you want to import are in the correct format and have the data for line of sight also present in a separate correctly build xml file.
If there is something that you would like to see in Fantasy Grounds that isn't currently part of the software or if there is something you think would improve a ruleset then add your idea here https://www.fantasygrounds.com/featu...rerequests.php

TC's site says he makes them available For Foundry and the Roll20 marketplace. Not sure if the Foundry format is the UVTT format or not. But if it is you can import it into FG as easy as Mr. Z says. If not, you will have to see if anyone knows of a way to convert. You might reach out to Tom and ask him. Supporting FG formats is pretty easy if he's interested. Several of us on the forums here can help him figure out how to do that if he's interested. He does great maps and I would love to see them in FG as well.

Thanks for the clarification! I see that I'll need to dive deeper into this topic to better understand how these files work.

Do you have any recommendations for YouTube videos or other resources that explain this process in more detail? It would really help me get a better grasp of how to properly import maps with Line of Sight into Fantasy Grounds.

    I appreciate your help!

Thanks for the information! I'll definitely look into this further.

I’ll also send a copy of this forum discussion to Tom Cartos (TC) to show that there are other people interested in this as well. Maybe he can provide some insights or even consider adding support for Fantasy Grounds in the future.

    Thanks again!

Video one here covers the basics of importing images into FG https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forum...-do-I-in-Unity

But I don't think it covers importing images with the line of sight file. However that process is fairly simple; as long as the xml file has the same name as the image and is in the same location on your hard drive as the image, it will automatically be imported along with the image.

I see so many WEBM files, and they don't work. Are there any animated maps that are in the format FGU needs? Or are there programs that convert them?

Yes. FGVTT supports wepb animated codec 8 maps. The ones that aren't working are probably code 9. There are a number of programs which can do the converting. I use ffmpeg https://www.ffmpeg.org/

Oh, that is good news. Is there a way to see if it's codec eight or codec 9? And when I upload one without an error, I can't see anything when I open it in FG. It's just black. I hope I don't ask the most stupid questions, but that's all new for me.

I don't know whether there is a way or not to see what the codec is. But if you open the image in FGVTT and it's black that's probably a pretty fair indication that it's not in the correct format.
